Throughout our everyday life many citizens of big cities deal with violence.
Philadelphia is the city which is now as the "city of brotherly love", but we are slowly leaving this name behind us. Philly is passing other cities with the highest murder rates. Violence is a constant scene in the city of philadelphia. everyday there is a new article in the paper, or on the news about another innocent person dying at the hands of violence.
Of mice and men has a lot on unnecessary violence it. Not that it hurts the novel or gives it a bad spin it just relates to the theme of philadelphia in the current 2000's. The arguments that curly had with the guys and the way in which they ended reminds me of the way arguments end today if not worst. many arguments in todays time end in some one being shot, and killed, or hurt really bad in another violent sort.
Just as Stienbeck was criticised and talked about for the violence in his book Philadelphia is constantly talked about and written about, and if it were i'm a book i'm sure philadelphia would be banned without hesitation. Philadelphia's violence is constantly talked about now. Almost each day one person dies whether innocent or not.
By reading this book and living in philadelphia I have come to see that a motif exist outside of a book. The main motif in the book was violence and our main motif in philadelphia is violence. I believe that book was very good and went outside the box as far as themes and motifs. The books shows love through violence as well, ex: George killing Lennie. This is a difference from the violence we see, because many people don't care about their target or their targets family.
I believe that by having the chance to connect this book so many different modern life topics makes it even better to read.
